Our Mission & Vision

KindNation Network was founded in 2018 with a simple yet powerful mission: to create a community where kindness is the driving force for positive change. We believe that through collective action, we can address social challenges and build stronger, more resilient communities.

Based in Vancouver, our network has grown to include hundreds of dedicated volunteers who contribute their time, skills, and compassion to various community initiatives. We focus on creating meaningful connections between people while addressing real community needs.

Our vision is to create a world where kindness is the foundation of community interaction, where neighbors help neighbors, and where everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the greater good. Through our various programs and initiatives, we're working to make this vision a reality, one act of kindness at a time.

Community Garden Project

Our community garden initiative transforms unused urban spaces into vibrant gardens that provide fresh produce and beautiful green spaces for local residents. Volunteers learn gardening skills while contributing to food security and environmental sustainability.

Join us every Saturday morning for gardening sessions, workshops, and community harvests. No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to get your hands dirty!

Through this project, we've created over 15 community gardens across Vancouver, producing thousands of pounds of fresh produce annually that is shared with community members and local food banks.

Project Highlights:

  • Sustainable gardening practices
  • Seasonal planting workshops
  • Harvest celebrations
  • Seed exchange program

Skill Share Workshops

Our skill share program connects people with different talents and expertise, creating opportunities for community members to learn from each other. From cooking classes to digital literacy, home repair to art—these workshops build practical skills and foster community connections.

Workshops are held twice monthly at our community center. You can participate as a learner or volunteer to share your own skills with others.

These workshops not only help participants develop new abilities but also create meaningful intergenerational connections and celebrate the diverse knowledge within our community. Many participants have gone on to use their new skills to help others or even start small businesses.

Recent Workshop Topics:

  • Basic home repairs and maintenance
  • Digital literacy for seniors
  • International cooking techniques
  • Creative writing and storytelling

Neighborhood Clean-Up Crew

Our clean-up crews work to keep Vancouver beautiful by organizing regular neighborhood clean-up events. These gatherings not only improve our physical environment but also build neighborhood pride and community spirit.

Clean-up events are scheduled monthly in different neighborhoods across the city. We provide all necessary equipment—just bring your energy and community spirit!

Beyond just picking up litter, our clean-up crews also work on graffiti removal, planting flowers in public spaces, and maintaining local parks. These efforts have transformed neglected areas into sources of neighborhood pride and created safer, more welcoming public spaces for everyone.

Clean-Up Impact:

  • Over 5,000 pounds of litter collected annually
  • 25+ neighborhood parks maintained
  • Hundreds of flowers planted in public spaces
  • Reduced vandalism in participating neighborhoods

What Our Volunteers Say

Hear from the people who make our community special and the impact volunteering has had on their lives

Joining KindNation has been one of the best decisions I've made. I've met amazing people, learned new skills, and found a sense of purpose through volunteering. The community garden project has completely transformed how I think about food and sustainability.

What I appreciate most is how the organization makes volunteering accessible to everyone. They provide training, flexible schedules, and a supportive environment that makes it easy to contribute meaningfully, even as a beginner.

Sarah Johnson

Volunteer since 2020 | Community Garden Project

As a newcomer to Vancouver, I was looking for ways to connect with my community. KindNation provided not just volunteer opportunities but a welcoming family. The neighborhood clean-ups have given me a sense of ownership and pride in my new home.

The friendships I've formed through KindNation have been incredible. There's something special about working alongside others who share your values and commitment to making a difference. I've found my people here, and that's been just as valuable as the volunteer work itself.

Miguel Rodriguez

Volunteer since 2021 | Neighborhood Clean-Up Crew

I started volunteering after retirement, looking for something meaningful to do with my time. The skill share workshops have been incredible—I've taught woodworking to younger generations while learning digital skills from them. It's a beautiful exchange.

What I didn't expect was how volunteering would give me a renewed sense of purpose. Sharing my lifetime of skills with others and seeing their appreciation has been deeply fulfilling. KindNation has created a space where everyone's contributions are valued, regardless of age or background.

Robert Chen

Volunteer since 2019 | Skill Share Workshops

As a university student, I was looking for volunteer experience that would be meaningful and flexible with my schedule. KindNation has been perfect—I can participate when I have time, and the community is so supportive and understanding of my changing availability.

Beyond just the flexibility, I've gained valuable leadership experience and professional skills that have enhanced my resume. The connections I've made through KindNation have opened doors to internships and career opportunities I wouldn't have found otherwise. It's been an investment in my future as much as in my community.
